Problem-solving skills are the ability to identify
problems, brainstorm and analyze answers, and
implement the best solutions. While problem-solving skills
are valued by employers, they are also highly useful in other
areas of life like relationship building and day-to-day decision

Step 2: Take Actions Independently
Identify a time you and your colleagues in a professional or education setting faced a
problem. Define the problem.
Think about and reflect on how you tried to find a solution to your problem. Did you
use any or all of the methods part of the 7 step method? Now that you have read
about the 7 step method, would you do anything differently in the future to solve the
problem?
Think about your future desired job and the work team you would likely prob-
lem-solve with. If your future team is facing a problem, what kind of problem do you
imagine you may face?
How would you brainstorm and identify solutions you can all come up with and go
with the best option? What are some ideas for a solution you have? How could you
work with the team to find a solution?
Step 3: Practice with a Mentor
Define the problem after a discussion with your mentor.
Brainstorm ideas for possible solutions or evaluate your ideas for finding the best
solution to your problem.
Finalise a course of action.
Practice communicating about a professional scenario (past or future one you
imagine) and how you and/or a team problem-solved together to find a solution.
